on my mind

Today I'm joining Rhonda from Down to Earth for her Friday photo feature, 'on my mind'.

I'm wondering where the time has gone this year as my DS4 heads off for his last day of kindy.  All I know is its going way too fast for me.  I wish I could just freeze this time of innocence, squishy cuddles, mischief and the simple wonderous moments I want to hold on to forever.

We made these cute little 'pudding biscuits' for his class party. 

And some simple spiced trivets for the teachers, I'm sure they get enough chocolate!!

So much to do today but only one thing on my mind.  Join in with Rhonda at down to earth for her Friday photo feature.

When I started my blog, the idea was not to include pics of myself.  Not sure why, maybe because when you just read about a person you can form your own picture.  People can imagine you just how they like.  Maybe they would be disappointed.  Who knows.

This is a picture of me...

.... and one of my oldest and dearest friends.  We have been friends for over thirty years.  We have been close to each others family since childhood.  Our lives have taken very different directions, yet we have remained so close.  She has a wonderful career, lives in a beautiful house, loves eating out, married with no children (her choice) and travels the world a few times a year.

Yesterday she told me that her father has cancer, everywhere.  As I write this I cry, I can't stop the tears.  I suppose the realisation that I'm in my mid forties and we are getting to the age where our parents, friends parents and 'that' age group we knew as adults when we were kids are approaching death.  And she's my friend and we've been through so much and I'm just not ready for this.

I guess this is pretty heavy stuff for a feature that I feel should be more lighthearted, but today this is whats on my mind.

Joining in with Rhonda for her 'on my mind' Friday photo feature.  Nothing too exciting in my world today.

Last weekend I sent some eggs with DH to some faraway neighbours - how close does someone have to live to be a neighbour?  They're down the road, around a corner or two and over a few paddocks, does that make them neighbours?  A little while ago they lost all their chickens to the dreaded fox.

They gave us this gorgeous little loquat tree and two mulberry cuttings.  I'm wondering whether the cuttings will 'make it', see the short one, its already been 'pruned' from the dog pulling it out and having a chew! I was going to re pot the cuttings today ..... as I'm writing, littlest has just got up and is not well at all.  Change of plans I think.

Joining Rhonda at down-to-earth for her Friday photo feature, this is whats on my mind today ~

Last night we found out that we are to be an Uncle & Aunt again!

How very exciting.  DH sister is pregnant with her fourth baby.  It got me thinking straight away about what I could be making and sharing with her.  My bassinet has been shared around for so many babies and when I was pregnant with my fourth I made this set hoping that it will be something that will be passed down through my children from generation to generation.

The photo is very dodgy, if you can't tell - its candlewicked - guess it was the best I could do at the time and we were living in a shed!

Its been a while since I've joined Rhonda for her 'on my mind' Friday photo feature ..... 

I was given this bag of oranges from my mother-in-law and although I've used quite a few, thinking of ways to use the rest up.  

Its a rainy old day outside, just perfect for baking!

I'm endeavouring to become a regular with Friday's 'on my mind' with Rhonda at Down to Earth.

 

On my mind today is my mother-in-law.  She came for dinner last weekend and brought these flowers - she's a florist and had come from her shop.  As I walked past them this morning, I thought of her and that it is Friday.  She hates Fridays, last year my father-in-law passed away from motor neurone disease, on a Friday.  For us we remember the date and how many months it has been.  For her, she remembers that its Friday, another week gone by without him.

On my mind is ....

 a change in the weather

As of 9am this morning Perth has reached a record number of 26 consecutive days over 30C, with 10 over 35C and 17 nights over 20C.  The hottest summer since records began.  Tomorrow we are forecast 29C, a welcome relief from the heat for everyone.  It has taken its toll!!
